Profile of our Francophone and Acadian regions
Socio-economic profiles
RDÉE Canada, working with network provincial and territorial organizations, has developed 57 socio-economic profiles on all Francophone and Acadian communities across Canada.
These profiles contain various sets of relevant demographic, economic and social statistics. They also contain several comparisons with the population speaking the language of the majority.
The quantitative profile data are completed by qualitative regional portraits based on various themes: recruiting a bilingual work force, training, business support services and regional economic development priorities.
The purpose of these profiles is to improve our understanding of minority official-language communities. They can be used by provincial and territorial RDÉEs to determine the status of their communities, prioritize strategies and develop action plans to address economic development and employability issues. The profiles also provide useful tools not only for other organizations involved in economic development, but also for the communities themselves.
Within a community economic development (CED) framework, the development of socio-economic profiles represents a critical step in arriving at an assessment of a community’s situation. The adoption of a profile can lead to the creation of a community plan and generate a list of development priorities determined by the community for years to come.
Communities can use the enclosed socio-economic profiles as the starting point of a CED process leading up to the adoption of a community plan. Any community, small and rural or relatively large and urban, can use one of these profiles in setting up its development process. In certain cases, additional quantitative and qualitative data will be required to develop a more complete picture of a community’s situation. An accurate assessment and a clear definition of needs and actions require as complete a picture as possible.
