RDÉE Ontario
The Réseau de développement économique et d'employabilité (RDÉE) Ontario (Economic Development and Employability Network of Ontario) supports Francophone economic development by making a range of services available to local organizations in order to stimulate job creation.
RDÉE Ontario strives to create a favourable climate for the socioeconomic development of Francophones by making available human, financial and material resources, sharing best practices and offering technological watch.
More than 500,000 native Francophones live in Ontario.
RDÉE Ontario is a member of RDÉE Canada, a non-profit organization supported financially by Human Resources Development Canada and governed by an executive board. It is made up of representatives from Eastern, Northern, Central and Southwestern Ontario and from the main economic associations for Franco-Ontarians: the Association française des municipalités de l’Ontario, the Conseil de la coopération de l’Ontario, the Union des cultivateurs franco-ontariens and the entrepreneurial sections of Ontario Francophone colleges.
RDÉE Ontario’s headquarters are in Ottawa, and it has three regional offices in Toronto, Sudbury and Ottawa. Development officers cover the entire province in the priority sectors of rural development, the knowledge economy, integration of youth in economic development and tourism
Tourism
RDÉE Ontario officers help community groups determine and plan projects, establish partnerships and identify sources of funding.
This sector’s objectives are to boost the position of Ontario Francophones in Canada, to promote the added value of Francophones in economic development and the importance of the tourism industry in creating jobs, and to help Francophone communities develop their capacities.
Rural Development
The officers responsible for rural development support the Francophone communities in rural areas by developing job-creation activities. These activities can be related to agriculture, agri-food or any other type of socioeconomic development. They especially help the communities draw up economic development plans.
The objectives of this sector are to promote the creation of rural development support structures, to promote the offer of added-value products and to develop an entrepreneurship culture.
Knowledge-Based Economy
The knowledge economy officers inform the Francophone communities of opportunities to use technological tools with a view to increasing their capabilities and productivity in this new economy of knowledge and know-how.
The objectives of this sector include establishing a communication and knowledge-sharing network for the Francophone communities, promoting the knowledge economy in all sectors, helping implement a good knowledge strategy, and obtaining relevant statistical information in order to determine the professional development situation of employees.
Integration of Youth in Economic Development
Young people comprise 26.5% of the Francophone population, compared to 33.9% of the Ontario population. Because of this demographic situation, there is a risk of shortages of qualified, bilingual workers in the future, which may adversely affect the Francophone communities and the job market.
This sector helps young people prepare for and integrate into the labour market. Its projects aim at generating young people’s interest in information technologies, and make up an important part of the work of its officers.
