Regional Snapshot
The Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry region has 1% of Ontario’s population and is home to over 4% of the province’s Francophones. Francophones make up 23% of the region’s population, however, 44% of the population claims knowledge of French.
The average employment income in the region ($30,278) is well below that of Ontario overall ($39,386). The average income of the region’s Francophones, however, is 8% higher than that of Anglophones.
The Francophone and Anglophone unemployment rates in the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry region are lower than the Ontario provincial average. Unemployment among Francophones in the region is 13% lower than among the region’s Anglophones.
Three industries predominate in the region in terms of workforce percentages and these are the same at the provincial level. However, industries in fourth and fifth place in this region, namely construction, and transportation and warehousing, do not rank among the province’s main industries.
The leading occupations in the region are the same as for the province, with the exception of occupations in processing, manufacturing and utilities, which are in fourth place in terms of percentage of the region’s workforce, while this is not so at the provincial level.
